Another massive diamond has been unearthed this week at the Karowe Lucara mine, Botswana. Lucara Diamond Corp. announced this week that the recovery of a 472 Carat Diamond, top light brown gem quality diamond has been unearthed, and it's the third largest diamond ever recovered from its 100% owned Karowe Diamond Mine located in Botswana.

CEO Eira Thomas commented:
The Karowe mine has proven to be very successful for Lucara, as it now produces some of the largest and best diamonds in the world. Last year Lucara sold a 1,109-carat diamond for $53 million, and while this is under half the size, its bound to still raise a hefty price at auction. In 2016 Lucara sold the most expensive rough gem on record, the 813-carat Constellation, for $63 million.
As this latest super diamond to be unearthed is described as light brown in colour, it will not fetch as high as price, as brown diamonds don’t command as high a price, however its super-size may lift the current lid and it may be valued differently. Eira Thomas commented that brown diamonds command much interest due to the variety of view on what can be done with stones of that colour.
