The Story Behind the Tennis Bracelet

When determining which style of bracelet is the most iconic, the classic tennis bracelet is certainly high on the list. From t shirts to ball gowns, an elegant tennis bracelet can be worn with just about anything and looks fantastic on anyone. At Haruni, we can offer a variety of bracelet styles in a multitude of gemstones and colours. If you’d like something more unique, you can book a free consultation and we can discuss a custom-made version for you.

But how did this bracelet come by such a unique name? Before 1987, it was sometimes known as a diamond line bracelet. The name tennis bracelet became popular after a famous incident involving tennis star Chris Evert during that year’s U.S. Open. During a match, her diamond bracelet broke, and she asked to pause the game until it was found.

When asked afterwards what had happened, she replied that she had lost her tennis bracelet. This incident drew attention to the bracelet style and cemented its association with the name tennis bracelet.

This style of bracelet has always been, and looks to remain, one of the most popular around with many brands imitating the design with clear crystals. The Haruni Diamond Tennis Bracelet is however a truly precious piece. Set in solid 18k white gold, it features forty-eight round brilliant diamonds of impeccable quality.

Does a Tennis Bracelet Have to Be Diamonds?

A tennis bracelet doesn’t strictly need to be all diamond. It’s a piece of jewellery that can be layered with other bracelets or even a watch and so a wearer may choose to alternate between sizes and even gemstones. While it’s true diamonds are the most common choice for tennis bracelets, other gemstones such as sapphires, rubies, or emeralds can also be used, either alone or in combination with diamonds.

We have a selection of stunning ready to wear tennis bracelets that offer an alternative aesthetic to the original design. These include pieces such as our unique Chocolate Diamond Bracelet or our gorgeous Pink Sapphire Tennis Bracelet.

And, to avoid a repeat of ‘87, you can be certain that each Haruni tennis bracelet has an expertly made and secure clasp. This ensures that it remains firmly in place.
